Reading seminar: Julian Nida-Rümelin: Unagitated realism. A philosophical polemic.
July 5 @ 18:00 - July 7 @ 15:00 CEST
Language of the seminar: German
Book: Julian Nida-Rümelin: Unaufgeregter Realismus. Eine philosophische Streitschrift. Mentis Verlag 2018
Nida-Rümelin understands the currently widespread anti-realism as an expression of an intellectual crisis and mental confusion, which he wants to counteract.
The realism he represents is comprehensive (insofar as it includes all sciences and the practice of communication in the world), unagitated (it is not based on a specific metaphysics), epistemic (it sees itself as a natural interpretation of our practice of justifying opinions and actions), and pragmatic (related to everyday practice), and his statements are both committed to careful philosophical analysis and to the desire to enable participation in a common human way of life in an understandable way. Probably we will discover parallels to the Socratic Method.
In the reading seminar we try to understand the text together and then discuss our own, possibly critical, thoughts on this approach.
